TOM JONES in York. Fantastic. Rushed to book tickets. In queue hours before show time to get good view.
Saw the stage behind huge grey screens. Sat watching indifferent racing. Excitement mounting. Lights. Music. Roaring cheers.
When will the screens move so we can see Tom alive and kicking? Music so loud, it is distorted. When will the screens move?
TV screens showing the crowds we’ve been among for five hours. When will the screen move? The truth dawns. They won’t.
Couldn’t believe it. The crowds went quiet. Huge disappointment mixed with shame at being so stupid - £40 each for a video showing anything but the star.
Would Tom wonder where we had gone? Could he see beyond the barricade?
This is Tom Jones. Or was it?
