THE charity Action Medical Research is calling for riders to sign up to the York 100 cycling challenge.

The route, which starts at the University of York on Sunday, August 16, passes through the Vale of York and the Yorkshire Wolds and passes the magnificent Castle Howard and the Howardian Hills.

The ride offers three options:

  • A 40-mile route for those new to cycling or who haven’t had much time to train
  • A 65-mile route
  • Or the more challenging option, which covers 100 miles - ideal for experienced sportive riders.

This event is part of the charity’s RIDE100 series of one-day bike rides that take place in cycling locations across the UK. All include chip timing, food and water stations, lunch, marshals and mechanics, and a free massage at the finish.

The ride is supported by Welcome to Yorkshire which included it in a series of three summer cycling sportives inspired by the overwhelming popularity of last year’s Grand Depart of the Tour de France.

Cyclists participating in the York 100 will be raising money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children.

The charity is currently supporting work around childhood cancer, Down syndrome, epilepsy, and cystic fibrosis, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
