I FOUND the heading of “Threat to bar plan” a bit of a misleading comment (The Press, July 21), when in actual fact the establishment of another bar in the cumulative impact zone is both a threat to the CIZ and residents in the city centre.

I fought long and hard to establish this to protect our residents.

For too long we have made a point of wanting people to move into the city centre and, then, thanks to the attitude of some councillors that is forgotten.

Then, when they (rightfully) complain about sleepless nights, due to the noise and behaviour of night-time drinkers, they have been met by the comment of “well what do they expect living in the city centre ?”.

This is the exact opposite to what they should expect.

The main problem we have had is the ability of getting the planning and licensing departments of the council to work together.

The planners should ensure that some condition is put in place to address the issue of giving a licence tied to serving alcohol only with meals, and recommend this to the licensing committee.

They must act together to achieve a city centre that can bring enjoyment to all.

Cllr K Myers put in a motion at the council meeting.

Hopefully, he has more luck and support of members than I had.
