MARK Addy may have come a long way since working as a carpenter at York Theatre Royal, but so has fellow thesp chippy Martin Witts. Hollywood tinsel may not have sprinkled his dinner suit but as the owner of Leicester Square Theatre, the lad's undoubtedly done well.

Later this month Martin will be bringing the show home with the inaugural Great Yorkshire Fringe; a festival promising 130 shows of the weird, wise and wonderful. Big names will be appearing from Paul Merton to Al Murray, in what promises to be the biggest festival of this sort in York for three decades.

And guess which of Martin's mate's will be one of the star bills? We can't wait.
