A FAMILY fun day has been held in Haxby in honour of a toddler with a rare and incurable genetic condition.

The event, which took place on Saturday at the Oaken Grove Community Centre, featured bouncy castles, a penalty shoot out, facepainting, a magic show and tombolas, pony rides, craft tent, Peppa pig, Rapunzel and Elsa from Frozen.

There was also a cake stall, refreshments, a fire engine and stocks in which people had sponges thrown at them.

The day was attended by Blake Knaggs and his parents Louise and Paul, and raised funds for the Blake's Genes appeal, which is funding research into his condition, Mucolipidosis II ML2 (MPS).

His family hopes the research might prolong Blake’s life but also help other children born with the condition.

Some funds from the appeal have also gone to Martin House Children’s Hospice, where Blake has stayed, and some has been used to create a sensory room full of stimulating colour and light at his home in Huntington.
