UPDATED 3.55pm: A police spokesman said Mr McGhie was found safe and well earlier today.

-------------------------------------------------

POLICE are concerned for the safety of a missing Harrogate man.

Tom McGhie is 18 and was last seen by his family when he left for college on Thursday morning. He was seen again near Conningham Hall in Knaresborough at about 1.30pm, but has not been seen or heard from since.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said officers are becoming increasingly concerned for his safety as it is very out of character for him to be out of contact with his family for so long.

Sergeant Alex Langley of Harrogate Police said: "Tom, your family are very worried about you. If you see or hear this appeal, please get in touch with your family, friends or the police and let us know that you are safe."

He is 6ft tall, of slim build with blonde hair and blue eyes. When he was last seen he was wearing ripped, pale blue jeans, a dark coloured hooded top, brown trainers and was carrying a Reebok record bag.

Anyone with any information or who has seen Mr McGhie should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
