BRITISH Transport Police have released this image of a man as they investigate an incident on a train travelling from York to Sunderland.

Detectives said a 21-year-old woman from Wakefield was sitting in coach B when a man seated several rows in front of her left his seat and approached her as the 8.14pm service departed from York on Sunday May 24.

“He began making inappropriate comments which made her feel extremely uncomfortable, then kissed her face," said Detective Constable Wayne Green .

“She asked him to leave her alone, but he continued to harass her before returning to his seat.”

The man left the train at Sunderland and the woman reported the incident to police.

“The victim of this assault was upset and angry, and I would like to thank her for reporting the incident to us," he said.

“We take all reports of unwanted sexual behaviour extremely seriously and are working hard to find the person responsible." DC Green said the man in the picture may have information relating to the incident and appealed for help in identifying him.
