I HAVE worked at The Press for 14 very happy years, typing in sports results, news copy, readers’ letters, feature items, uploading events and photographs and various other admin bits ‘n’ bobs.

Over the years I have seen some staff come and go, mainly young reporters who train up and move to pastures new, often in some far-flung Far Eastern country.

The main body of the editorial department, though, has had the same staff for years and years, and they have become like family to me, which goes to show we all like working for The Press.

Sadly, though, I leave at the end of May, and I wanted to write to the letters page myself, because I have particularly enjoyed typing in the handwritten letters sent to us, in particular Kenneth Bowker (many letters over the years) talking about subjects including his policeman days; Ken Holmes, whose wit often made me giggle; Pamela Frankland, backing the farmers (rightly so); Howard Perry; Cynthia Glasby; H Griffiths; Terry Smith and his fight for the Tories and many, many more. Some of the letters were quite illegible, but I always understood their writing.

It’s nice to see people still put pen to paper.

Quite simply – I shall miss it all.

Annette Harrison, Editorial assistant, The Press, York.
