A MARKS and Spencer store employee shaved her hair off in front of colleagues and shoppers in a bid to raise more than £500 for a children's hospice.

Karen Scott, who works in Ladieswear at the company's Vangarde outlet near Monks Cross, York, said she also wanted the headshave on Saturday to raise awareness of the good work done by Martin House Hospice at Boston Spa, which provides family-led care for children with life-limiting conditions.

Ms Scott, 48, said: "As I’ve already shaved my hair off before for charity, I thought it would be great to do it again."

Deb O’Donnell, Vangarde shopping park centre manager, said: “It’s fantastic to see Karen doing such a brave thing to raise money for such a worthy cause.

“All of our stores at Vangarde Shopping Park have been very active in raising money for charity, such as Frankie and Benny’s raising money for Rays of Sunshine.

“Along with our supported charities, NSPCC and York Against Cancer, we aim to be active members of the community, contributing towards it in positive ways.”
