St Leonard’s Hospice has launched an appeal to celebrate 30 years of caring for local people.

The appeal titled ‘St Leonard’s Care Everywhere’ encourages donors to help raise £30,000 in the Hospice’s 30th year for 3 Hospice@Home support vehicles.

St Leonard’s Hospice@Home team provide specialist hand-on nursing care and support to patients and their families who want to remain at home in the last few weeks of their life. The team work alongside the community staff, such as GPs, District Nurses, Palliative Care Nurses and other voluntary and statutory agencies. All the staff are experienced registered nurses who have palliative care skills.

Lucy Triffitt’s mum was cared for by Hospice@Home last year, she commented: “They touched my life … actually touch doesn’t really cover it, they bear hugged mine and my sister’s life. When you’re emotionally and mentally drained and lost in a very dark time, the help they sent was the biggest relief.

"The Hospice@Home team were our knight in shining armour. It meant we could do things like have a shower, get some sleep and try to eat something as we knew she was in good hands. We will be eternally grateful for the help from both the Hospice and the Community Palliative Care Nurses as they let us facilitate mum’s peaceful and dignified death.”
