YORK Food Bank has received a £2,000 boost from the city’s annual Community Carol Concert.

The Press nominated the food bank to be one of the concert beneficiaries last Christmas after the annual event at York Barbican had raised thousands of pounds in recent years for the City of York Afghanistan Commemorative Appeal, which had passed its target.

Members of the carol concert committee have now presented a cheque from the proceeds of the event to Laura Hagues, from the food bank, to support its work.

Concert organiser Graham Bradbury said this year’s event – the 58th such concert – would take place at the same venue on a new date, the last Sunday before Christmas, December 20.

Tickets will be available from the Barbican box office from July 1.
