PUB-GOERS will be able to grill political hopefuls in York on Wednesday, after a new hustings event was announced.

The York Central General Election candidates from five parties will gather at The Volunteer Arms in Watson Street, Holgate, eight days before polling day.

The pub's co-owner Paul Crossman said on Facebook that it was expected each candidate would be given seven minutes to make their case, followed by questioning between candidates and then questions from the floor.

The event will begin at 8pm.

Candidates attending will be:

  • Robert McIlveen (Conservative)
  • Jonathan Tyler (Green Party)
  • Rachael Maskell (Labour)
  • Nick Love (Liberal Democrat)
  • Ken Guest (UKIP)
