THE Bishop of Selby and representatives of a York school have urged head teachers from across North Yorkshire to help pupils make an impact on their local community.

Dr John Thomson and Carr Junior School had starring roles at a Young Leaders Award Conference organised by the Archbishop of York Youth Trust.

The bishop told the assembled heads and support staff who work with children aged seven to 11: “The Young Leaders Award is a fantastic tool which inspires teachers to consider the whole child – both the mind and the heart.

"The award gives children the practical opportunities to be able to make an impact on their local communities – though they are young – I know they can change the world for the better and the Young Leaders Award is helping them to do exactly that.”

Carr Junior, one of 150 primary schools in the scheme, gave a presentation to the 49 schools from York and North Yorkshire represented at the conference on how it ran the award.
