A FISH and chip shop in York is celebrating after it was named one of the 50 best in the country for the second year.

Blue Fin in Tadcaster Road is among the top-rated fish and chip shops nationally according to this year's poll by Fry Magazine.

The poll looks for shops which score 95 per cent or more in visits from mystery diners, and Blue Fin has now appeared on the list for the last two years.

Steve Greenwood, shop manager, said: "It's absolutely great we have got in again for the second year. It's amazing.

"Our customers are always pleased when we get it. Last time we got great feedback from them and we only put the certificate up yesterday and everyone's saying 'well done'. It's great to be recognised for the work we're doing. We've been running the shop for about five years, and to place in the top 50 in the country twice in two years is just fantastic."

Other local fisheries which appeared in the top 50 included the Harpers of Wetwang branches in Hull Road, York, and in Market Weighton, and Aragon Fisheries in Knaresborough.

Reece Head, competition organiser, said this year's list actually contained 54 shops, as a number of venues tied on 95 per cent.

Reece said: "There was nothing in it between those shops that scored 95 per cent so the only fair thing to do was to put them all through – and they all deserve their place in our 50 Best."
