WHY, I wonder, is it necessary to prevent the free movement of a huge number of people for almost a whole day?

I’m talking about the Tour de Yorkshire race.

It seems there is some laziness involved in the thinking.

The organisers must know approximately what time the cyclists are due to reach a certain point, so wouldn’t it make more sense to close a stretch of road about half an hour before they are due, then reopen it as soon as they get through.

It can’t be that difficult. It shouldn’t take more than about an hour.

Instead, on that Bank Holiday weekend they decided those of us who live within the bike ride area must stay at home; no outings, no shopping, no visitors.

What about those who need to work, carers who need to visit the vulnerable, weddings, people with any type of appointment? Perhaps we don’t matter.

This lack of consideration and organisation is a downright disgrace, a total disregard for the residents needs, feelings or arrangements.

We’re not all interested in watching a crowd of cyclists ride past.

After all, we’re not the ones who benefit from this. All we want is the freedom to move around our area as we wish and need and for our visitors to be able to access our properties.
