NEW workshops to help autistic people take part in sport and physical activity in York will be held this weekend.

The Active For Autism workshops will be held tomorrow and on Sunday at Burnholme Community Sports Hub and will be run by The National Autistic Society with City of York Council. The workshops are open to coaches, teachers, sports volunteers and those with an interest in increasing sporting opportunities across the region.

Amy Webster, coordinator of Active For Autism, will be delivering the workshops.

She said: “The benefits of sport are well documented but far too many people with autism routinely miss out due to the social and sensory difficulties they can experience.

“With an understanding of autism, a coach would be able to consider this and adapt methods accordingly.”

Workshops run from 9.30am to 4.30pm and cost £35 for residents, £50 for non-residents.
