THE Go! Team have become The Gone! Team, as main man Ian Parton cuts the chains with his band members and resumes full control as composer, recording auteur and hyper-active producer for the first time since 2004 debut, Thunder, Lightning, Strike.

Album number four finds Parton applying samples to his live instrumentation as glittery cladding or fragmented, warped link pieces, rather than building songs from the samples first. He constructs from the inside, not from the outside to the hollow inner, although the effect is still as frothy as the fizzy drink that opens the album. Testosterone drums and indie dream-pop arrangements are matched to jubilant girl-group vocals by obscure singers who could be in Camera Obscura but aren’t.

Song after “delicious, curvy, undeniable, sunshiny” song has an instant sugar rush, but they have no cumulative effect.
