A MUSIC night in memory of Megan Roberts was a great success, organisers say.

Lauren Wilson, 21, and Claire Fleming, 22, are both music students at York St John University where Megan studied fine art before her death in the River Ouse last year.

They organised the free night of music at The Graduate in Lendal to help raise awareness and money for the York Rescue Boat, but also to remember Megan.

Megan's mother Jackie and Dave Benson, founder of the rescue boat charity, were at the gig, along with many of Megan's friends.

Lauren said: "It was really good, everything went smoothly and the acts were great. The Graduate was packed for quite a small venue, but there were probably about 80 or 90 people there, which we were really happy with.

"We're really happy with how it went and obviously, it's a student night, so we're not sure how much we would raise, but at the end of the day we were there to remember Megan. Dave said that and it was done well. Jackie and all Megan's friends enjoyed the night so that's the most important thing."

Jackie said: "The girls organised a very successful evening with some great music. We were very impressed with their talent and professionalism and anyone looking for an absolutely brilliant music act for an event should look no further than their awesome soul band Ain't Got No Soul - I loved it."

Lauren said the event raised more than £140 for the York Rescue Boat, which was "fantastic", and thanked everyone who helped organise the event for their assistance.

She said: "The acts were great. I also performed with Let's Go Disco! and the support acts Luke Richardson, 10 String & Sing and L'Teen Beach Club were fantastic so special thanks to them, and to the members of York Rescue Boat for attending and supporting the event too.

"Our sound guys Dom Smith and Sean Smith from S12 Productions were receiving The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Awards, so couldn't be there until 5.30pm, so we need to give special thanks to them and Josh Smith and Andy Stancliffe, who helped out. Also Jonathan Lee Brookes for his photography throughout the evening."
