YORK'S schools are among the best performing in the region, and out-do national averages according to new Ofsted figures.
A total of 23 percent of the city schools were graded "outstanding" by inspectors, higher than both the Yorkshire average of 16 percent and the national figure of 20 percent.
And while 11 percent of York schools required improvement, none were considered inadequate - the worst possible result in Ofsted reports - which compares favourably with the 17 percent requiring improvement nationally and two percent judged inadequate.
By contrast, Yorkshire and the Humber was the worst performing region in England with 21 percent of schools requiring improving and three percent considered inadequate.
East and North Yorkshire both outperform the regional averages with one percent of all their schools judged inadequate.
The statistics are taken from Ofsted school inspection reports at the end of 2014.
