TWO women were seriously injured a road accident on the A1079 at Shiptonthorpe early on Saturday morning.

All three emergency services were called to the scene, and Humberside Police closed the road in both directions for around two hours after the collision at 7.30am.

The crash involved two cars, and firefighters from Humberside Fire and Rescue used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the roofs off both care and free women from each of them.

One woman was flown to Hull Royal Infirmary by air ambulance with leg injuries, while another woman was taken to the same hospital by road ambulance.

Police urged drivers to find an alternative route to avoid delays during the road closure.
