A GROUP of young people in York paid tribute to victims of the Holocaust through a theatre piece they devised themselves.

Final Curtain Drama Group presented Too Hard To Imagine, asking questions like “what would you take if you only had one suitcase?”, “what games would you play if you had nothing to play with?” and “could you stay quiet long enough if you had to hide?”.

Director Sally McIlveen said: “I’m very proud of the group. They have approached this subject with such maturity and commitment. It feels like we have worked on something quite special and in doing so they, in the words of York Memorial Week, will help ‘keep the memory alive’.”

The group of 11 and 14-year-olds meet regularly at Park Grove School.

The event at Clements Hall, on Sunday, February 8 also featured an art installation created by Colin Jackson and Creative Partnerships, working with five York primary schools, while musician Lesley Schatzberger spoke about the experiences of her parents who escaped to England from Nazi-occupied Vienna.
