DENIM is the order of the day at a hospice fashion show.

A collection of one-off customised denim jackets made by students of York College will be a highlight of this year’s fashion show organised by the St Leonard’s Hospice charity shops.

The hospice shops have provided the jackets from their donated stock, and passed them to the college’s fashion students, who have used them as the basis for their own creations.

As well as designing and remodelling them, the students will be showing them on the catwalk at the show, which takes place on Wednesday, April 15 at the Gateway Centre in Front Street, Acomb.

In the run-up to the event, the students will show hospice mascot Lenny Bear their creations, and Sue Bonarius, manager of the hospice’s Tang Hall Shop and lead organiser of the fashion show, will help judge the creations and choose a winning design, which will be specially highlighted at the fashion show.

The doors open for the fashion show at 7pm and the show begins at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 and include a welcome drink. They are on sale from all the St Leonard’s Hospice shops, from reception at the hospice in Tadcaster Road during office hours or by calling the retail office on 01904 786190.

Helen Ventress, head of division for art and design at York College said: "Our extended diploma fashion and clothing students have been so creative with this project. Whilst developing their skills they have produced a wide range of customised denim jackets for the Spring/Summer 2015 season trends.

"They have enjoyed working for a real client and meeting current contemporary fashion design issues. We are delighted this fashion project will benefit our local Hospice and we thank St Leonard’s for giving our students the opportunity to be a part of their annual fashion show."
