A MALTON insurance company boss has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a young motorcyclist by careless driving.

Sean McClarron, of McClarron Insurance Brokers, who is also Master of the Derwent Hunt, yesterday made his first appearance before Scarborough Magistrates Court to deny causing the death of 26-year-old Stuart Green, from Staxton, near Scarborough.

Mr Green was one of three motorcyclists riding on the A171 at Cloughton Moor when tragedy struck near Gowland’s Lane at 6.30pm on August 15 last year.

Mr Green’s silver Yamaha and McClarron’s black Range Rover were travelling in the same direction when the collision happened.

McClarron, 48, of Pear Tree House, High Street, Snainton, pleaded not guilty and was bailed to appear at York Crown Court on March 9.

Magistrates agreed with Andrew Cameron, defending, that the case was suitable for summary hearing.

But McClarron, whose company is the official sponsor of Scarborough Yacht Club, elected for crown court trial.

Wearing a green waxed jacket and a suit, he spoke only to enter his plea, elect trial and confirm his name, address and age.
