A RESIDENT who resorted to blocking his road to prevent lorries delivering to York’s Derwenthorpe development too early in the morning says major steps are now being taken to tackle the problem.

The Press reported last Saturday how Pete Precious, of Fifth Avenue, was taking direct action against lorries using his road to gain access to the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust’s 540-home housing development.

He claimed he had complained to the trust, City of York Council and housebuilder David Wilson Homes about mud on the road, speeding site vehicles and vehicles delivering to the site earlier than they should under planning conditions, but nothing had been done.

Mr Precious said yesterday that since the article appeared, a representative from David Wilson Homes had been in touch to outline a series of measures to prevent any further breaches.
