A MAN who admitted indecent assault on a young girl has appeared in court.
Leigh Henry Smith, 25, of Water Lane York, appeared before York Magistrates’ Court on Friday to face three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14.
The incidents date back to between August 1995 and August 1996, and The Press understands Smith contacted North Yorkshire Police directly earlier this week.
A police spokeswoman said Smith was arrested on Wednesday after appearing voluntarily at Fulford Road Police Station, and was charged on Thursday following interview.
Smith was remanded in prison by magistrates, and will next appear at York Crown Court on March 20.
