Pupils across York banding together to make Red Nose Day video

York primary school children are making their faces funny for money and creating their own video montage to go alongside their recording of this year's official schools song 'Making Funny Faces'.

The project is being coordinated by John Hattam, the community outreach worker at Clifton Green Primary.

The idea is that each of York's 52 primary schools will submit a short video clip of staff or pupils for inclusion and the majority of those schools have already signed up.

This year's national Red Nose Day theme is 'doing something funny with your face' with an official schools song, written by Mark Johnson, promoting the theme.

Mr Hattam said York primary schools had been given permission to make their very own version of the video, creating a York Schools Funny Face Project.

He said: "So far, 40 primary schools have signed up to the project and are submitting their funny face clips and photos, to be amalgamated into one big Red Nose Day video.

"The aim is to raise £2,000 - it would be great if local businesses and individuals would be able to sponsor the project especially as it has involved so many children from across the city.

"Melrose Yard Studios, Walmgate, have kindly offered us use of their recording facilities on the February 27 to record the song ourselves so the whole project, song and video, will be made in York."

This year's Red Nose Day is on March 13 and the money raised nationally will help to get 300,000 children in Africa into education and learning as one of the project it is supporting.
