THE Archbishop of York dropped in at a primary school to deliver leadership workshops to pupils.
Dr John Sentamu visited Yearsley Grove School yesterday with his Youth Trust to see Year 6 pupils.
During the visit, the Archbishop took part in question and answer sessions with the pupils and spoke to parents and children in an after-school session about aspirations.
Head teacher, Eve Morris, said: "At Yearsley we try to have open doors to allow children a wide breadth of experiences so they can use them as a base for their own aspirations. We invited the Archbishop to come and speak to the children as we know he is such an advocate of young people and inspires them to see that they can have dreams that they can follow.”
Kate Denney, primary schools coordinator of the Archbishop of York’s Young Leaders Awards, said: “Yearsley Grove’s pupils may be young but they can make a difference and they can change the world for the better.”
During the visit the Archbishop met pupils from the school's African drumming club and clapped along with them, helping them keep the rhythm.
