A CAMPAIGN has been launched focussing on men’s mental health.

Man Up has been set up by Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and will showcase services available to men with mental health problems.

The campaign will challenge the stigma surrounding the issue and highlight work by the Trust for men with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.

Chris Butler, chief executive of Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust, said: “Men’s mental health is a taboo subject. It’s time to do something about this. We aim to challenge perceptions, showcase our services, highlight available support and encourage conversations about what is often a life or death issue.”

Mr Butler said 72 per cent of people treated for depression are women, but 75 per cent of people who take their own lives are men.

The campaign will explore the theme of men’s mental well-being throughout the year with discussions of monthly topics devised by medical professionals and local partners.

Archbishop of York John Sentamu is supporting the campaign, and said: “’Man Up?’ offers open access of conversation and information for men, their family or friends to assist individuals to get help. Don’t put off doing an act of good – do it today.”
