AN ABBEY which hosted the fairytale wedding of a huge Asian pop star has been inundated with tourists since the ceremony took place.
In the ten days since Jay Chou - dubbed the “New King of Asian Pop” - married Australian model Hannah Quinlivan at Selby Abbey, Reverend John Weetman estimates 500 Asian visitors have come through the doors.
Mr Chou is best known in the western world for his role in the 2011 film The Green Hornet alongside Seth Rogen, however, in his native Taiwan, he is a mega star boasting 2.5 million likes on Facebook.
The Rev Weetman said: “Since January 18 there has been about 500 Chinese or Asian visitors which is about 500 more than we would normally have, and a least double the number of visitors in that period. We don’t charge for entry, but sales have certainly gone up in the gift shop.
"We are happy to have as many visitors come to us and appreciate the building whether it is locals or from the other side of the world.”
The newlyweds held their reception in Castle Howard, which has now taken to translating some of its brochures into Chinese.
It is still unclear why the pop star selected North Yorkshire for his wedding.
