AS A regular shopper and user of the city centre, I was extremely pleased to see work being done to repair the pavements along Bishopthorpe Road.
I often use the shops on the street, as well as sometimes popping into the Pig and Pastry for breakfast, and it is heartening to see that this important hub of the community is being properly maintained.
I have always thought that Bishy Road provides a good counterbalance to the city centre; it is a community within itself, working in partnership with other players in the city but keeping its own distinctive character. It is good to see the council prioritising the maintenance of the street.
It is important that we continue to support the businesses on Bishy Road, including all getting behind their nomination for the Great British High Street of the Year Award. And when the Christmas season comes around, I will be there when they turn the lights on and mark the start of the festive period.
Bishy Road is a vital part of what makes York unique and we can all be proud of it.
