BUS passengers travelling between York the coast will be able to access free Wi-Fi thanks an allocation of city funds.
Bus operator Transdev is set to benefit from York’s share of £50 million from the government’s Super-Connected Cities programme fund..
From October, Coastliner services, operated by Transdev, will offer its customers a free Wi-Fi service thanks to the government funding which was awarded to City of York Council to help deliver Wi-Fi on public transport in York.
The free Wi-Fi will be installed on 22 vehicles that service Leeds to the east coast via York and will widen their existing Wi-Fi offer which is already available on Unibus route 44, run in partnership with University of York.
Although the equipment will be owned by the council, Transdev will manage the service and after two years the operator can purchase the equipment from the council at a market rate.
