CHILDREN and young people looked after by City of York Council will have the chance to take over council jobs and decisions next month.

The council is running Takeover Week from November 17-21, in support of the national Takeover Day on Friday, November 21.

During the week young people can take on a job they choose in the council, and have the opportunity to shadow senior directors and decision makers.

Cllr Janet Looker, the cabinet member for education, children and young people, said: “The Takeover Day principle is a great way for children and young people to get involved in decision making and develop their thinking and team work skills.

"More than simply work experience, Takeover Week is about young people exercising their right to have a voice, to be listened to, and to have their opinions respected. I hope they, and the adults they’re working with, will find the experience hugely enjoyable.”
