SO we are to have a modern version of Dad’s Army filmed here in Yorkshire, starring Bill Nighy and Catherine Zeta Jones, as reported in The Press.
Is nothing sacred any more? It will be yet another dreary remake that will end up on £1 shop shelves on DVD.
It is sacrilege and an insult to the wonderful actors of the original series, with the repeats still attracting millions of viewers. Remakes are never as good as the originals and are nearly always dropped after one series.
We are apparently also going to be subjected to a modern version of Columbo without Peter Falk. Give me a break – and don’t mention Murder She Wrote without Angela Lansbury.
Am I living in a parallel universe? I will be judging with my off button on my TV remote.
Leave things as they were: brilliantly acted, scripted and directed. Drama re-makes? No thank you.
