HUNDREDS of pupils at a York secondary school were rewarded for their hard work in a ceremony at the University of York.

About 200 pupils from Millthorpe School attended an awards evening in Central Hall on the Heslington campus and heard from guest speaker, Ashley Mason, founder and director of YorMed.

A former Millthorpe pupil, Mr Mason bought his own private ambulance when he was 20 and runs a thriving independent ambulance, first aid and medical-cover business based in York.

YorMed is an independent ambulance service based in the city of York, which provides a range of services that include ambulance transport for the NHS, first aid and medical cover for events and festivals and a range of training for the public, businesses and ambulance professionals.

Head teacher Trevor Burton welcomed guests and congratulated students on their effort and achievements, while music was provided by the school jazz band.

Mr Burton said: “I’m immensely proud of our students and all the very many ways in which they have contributed to the success of our school. Evenings like this are recognition, above all, of the incredible determination these young people have shown over the last year.”

Among the awards this year was the York College Academic Achievement Award, an award given to the Year 11 pupil who has made the most progress and achievement throughout their time at the school, which went to Ross Allen.

The interhouse sporting trophy went to Roman House and was collected on the night by Elliott Fenton and Amelia Yarrow and Roman was also awarded the Millthorpe interhouse cup, collected by Hannah Edwards and Ethan Peck.
