PUPILS at Wigginton School got in to the fundraising spirit by running a mini-marathon.

The youngsters each brought in a £1 donation and did ten laps of the school field before the York Marathon last weekend which saw a team of 12 adults from the school community - two teachers and ten parents - running the distance in a relay as part of the corporate challenge.

Year 5 teacher Sarah Ryding, who was one of those who ran the marathon, said so far more than £1,600 had been raised with the funds going towards new outdoor play equipment which costs about £8,000.

Mrs Ryding said: "The event was fantastic and the kids really enjoyed it. Some of them continued running round the field at lunchtime after the challenge. They really got into the spirit."
