SCIENTISTS at the University of York have taken part in a new study on the risks of pharmaceuticals in the environment.
Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are discharged at low levels in the environment through a number of different routes, with potential implications for humans and ecosystem health.
Scientific evidence is crucial for determining the effects of PPCPs in the environment and informing regulatory and policy responses to potential risks.
Building on research from North America which identified 22 research questions which would help scientists learn more about the effects, the York-led research team developed a survey that was completed by 535 environmental scientists from 57 different countries.
They ranked the 22 original research questions and submitted 171 additional ones. they felt were also of high priority.
