A WIDOWER who has dedicated his life to raising funds for research into a degenerative brain disease which killed his wife has raised another £765 with his 80th birthday celebrations.
Michael Shepherd, of Pocklington, said over the last 11 years, he had been a supporter of research into Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, especially since his wife Shirley died from the neurological illness.
He said it was decided to have a party for family, friends and supporters when he turned 80, and more than 120 people gathered in the Burnby Rooms in Pocklington recently to enjoy an afternoon of friendship, fellowship, conversation and afternoon tea, with people asked to make a donation rather than give a present.
“We have now sent off to the charity a sum of £765.20 and must say a very big thank you to everyone for their help in supporting this event,” he added.
