A DRIVER has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision which left two men seriously injured.

The 29-year-old man handed himself in to police at 3.50pm today and is currently being questioned by officers.

The two York men, aged 39 and 20, were injured by a blue Audi TT on Sowerby Road, Acomb, at 8.45pm on Friday night.

The car also careered into a lamp post before the driver fled the scene on foot.

Both men were taken to York Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries, where they remain in a comfortable and stable condition.

Initial reports from the police on Friday night suggested the injuries were not serious.
