FAMILIES united by a common grief will come together at services in York and Northallerton. York Minster is among 19 cathedrals across the country taking part in the Saying Goodbye memorial services for people who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or in infancy.

The annual memorials were started by Zoe and Andy Clark-Coates of Staffordshire, who lost five babies, and are open to everyone, regardless of denomination, faith or lack of faith. They are organised by the Mariposa Trust.

This year’s series began at Portsmouth Cathedral in March and will finish at Westminster Central Hall at the end of November. The York Minster service will start at 1.30pm on Saturday. On October 4, St Luke’s Chapel in the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, will also host a memorial service for anyone affected by the loss of a baby, starting at 2pm.
