INTERNATIONAL Talk Like a Pirate Day was this ‘yarr’ celebrated in style by Ralph Butterfield Primary School in Haxby.
The Key Stage 1 pupils have been focusing on pirates in their lessons; with their historical knowledge, artistic flare, computing abilities and map reading skills all being enhanced through the theme.
Clive Marshall, who will be playing a pirate in The Pirates of Penzance Opera from November 4-8 at the Theatre Royal York, spent the day at the school.
‘Captain Clive’ had his hands full sorting the pupils into a ship-shape crew for a day of treacherous sea voyages and chocolate-themed treasure hunts.
Clive said: “It was all very fortunate; everything just came together really nicely. The children really took an interest and learnt a lot about pirates and the sea. There was singing and dancing, everyone had a lot of fun and nobody had to walk the plank!”
