THE words are heartbreaking: wrung from a mother who has experienced the worst loss imaginable.
“It is like being in a horror story, it is torture,” says Jackie Roberts, whose daughter Megan drowned in the River Ouse earlier this year, in a poignant video. “I miss her every minute.”
The video is one of three made to draw attention to the dangers of York’s rivers. In the others, Steve Pearson talks about his son Tyler, and Rachel Peatfield about her 22-year-old boyfriend Ben Clarkson. Both Ben and Tyler, like Megan, drowned in York’s rivers this year.
Nothing will bring them back. But moving testimonies such as these may at least make people think.
We’d urge everyone in York to view these videos. There have been too many river tragedies already.
