THANK goodness for the latest revelation in The Press about City of York Council employing part-time consultants on £400 per day to try and solve an impossible problem, namely traffic congestion in York.

Yet again it beggars belief that anyone can ever think they can solve the huge numbers of vehicles on the roads that every city has to contend with.

The car is here to stay and no matter how many Park & Rides you build you will never stop cars coming in vast numbers, with many families having two or more. But let’s remember this is the Labour-led City of York Council again and what’s more they are deadly serious.

When I drove a taxi in York for seven years I and most of my fellow drivers were firmly of the opinion that the traffic lights caused the problem in York, because when major junctions had lights not working everything kept moving, with all drivers going slow and all giving way to each other.

Yet again precious money is wasted that ought to be used for more things that could benefit people and the city.
