YORK St John University has been hailed as one of the UK’s most gay-friendly universities by equality charity Stonewall.
The charity’s latest annual online guide, Gay By Degree, which assesses the UK’s 158 universities, says York St John is one of only six to score full marks.
Each university was measured against ten criteria to show how well it supports gay students, including whether it has a policy to tackle homophobic bullying and whether there are societies and events for gay students.
David Chesser, the university’s chief operating officer and chair of the equality and diversity steering group, said he was delighted it s inclusive approach had been recognised., adding: “This is testament to the commitment of our staff and students to making York St John a great place to study.”
