LIBRARIES and Acomb and Clifton are giving away free copies of the hit children's book Diaries of the Wimpy Kid.
Both Acomb and Clifton Explore are taking part in a national campaign to help children read, and have been chosen by Save the Children to take part in its 2014 campaign to help tackle deprivation in the UK by boosting literacy.
Publisher Random House has given each library 50 copies of the first book in the popular series by Jeff Kinney.
There are also prizes up for grabs for children who borrow Wimpy Kid books, and a book review competition, as well as Wimpy Kid Days at both libraries tomorrow with games, activities and the book giveaways.
Explore's chief executive Fiona Williams said: "With literacy being identified as key to tackling deprivation and with our libraries at the heart of these local communities, we’re well placed and resourced to help encourage parents to read with their children and help develop a lasting love of books and reading from an early age."
