A WOMAN has been sexually assaulted in York.

The 29-year-old was walking across the bridge which crosses the railway between York Hospital and Grosvenor Road between 12.30am and 1am on Friday, when she was approached by a man.

The man exposed himself to her and made suggestive comments before pushing her against a wall.

Detectives from North Yorkshire Police said the woman engaged the suspect in conversation, and managed to get away without being physically injured.

Police described the suspect as having an olive complexion, aged in his early 30s, about 5ft 10in tall, with a slim build and brown hair, which was cut short but in a curtains style. He spoke with a foreign accent and said he had been in the country for about a year.

Detective Sergeant Steve Wilson, of York CID, said: "Thankfully the woman was not injured as a result of this incident. However, she was left shaken by the experience.

"If you witnessed the assault or have any information which could identify the man responsible, I urge you to contact the police straight away."

Anyone with information should phone York CID on 101, email yorkcid@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
