LAST month I collapsed in Wigginton Road as I was about to travel back to Scotland from a break in York. My kidneys had failed totally and I had severe pneumonia. I was seven days in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at York Hospital, where the doctors told me in the time I would have travelled between York and Newcastle I would have died.
My wife and I would like to thank all staff of the HDU and Ward 34 for the excellent care and condition I received while in the hospital. They saved my life.
I would also like to thank Emma Barnsley, the owner of Crossways Guest House in Wigginton Road, for the care and attention she gave to myself and my wife.
We have stayed there on our visits to York over the last nine years and when this happened she invited my wife to stay with her free of charge as I recovered. When my wife had to briefly return home, she acted as a liaison, communicating between her and the hospital. I’ll never forget Emma’s kindness and I will never explain my gratitude.
