Police were notified after a man grabbed a young girl's arm as she was walking with her mother in a village in North Yorkshire.

A 46-year-old man was today charged with child abduction in connection with the incident.

The mother and daughter were walking in Wolsey Croft in Sherburn in Elmet just before 1pm on Thursday, when a man got out of a light coloured Nissan Micra and took hold of the girl's arm, police had said.

The girl was not harmed in the incident and safely returned to her mother, North Yorkshire Police said.

The Leeds man police have charged, was arrested on Saturday and charged this afternoon. He will appear at York Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Detective Constable Kendra Wedgwood of Selby CID, said: “I would like to thank the local community for their response to this incident and the assistance they have given to the police.”
