A MAN has been hit by a train and killed on the East Coast mainline.

The collission happened between Selby and Doncaster this morning.

The line is closed as a result, meaning long delays on East Coast, Grand Central, CrossCountry and Hull Trains services.

British Transport Police were called to the railway line near Moss Road foot crossing in Askern.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) and colleagues from South Yorkshire Police attended the incident, which was reported to BTP and is currently eing treated as non-suspicious."
