A TEENAGER from East Yorkshire who has overcome difficulties in his life will preach in York tomorrow.

Darius Traves, 19, has cerebral palsy which affects his speech, movement and co-ordination.

He has put together a presentation to talk about his disability and his faith, and will speak at St Hilda’s Church in Tang Hall from 11am.

He said: “I was born after a normal pregnancy but an accident happened during the birth and I was left for 35 minutes without oxygen, which caused the cerebral palsy. But even as a child I knew that I wanted to work within the Church.

“I went to Lourdes in 2009 and felt a spiritual awakening.

“I moved in with my grandma and granddad in Bridlington when I was 15, and I started attending Emmanuel Church a little while after this.

“I was baptised when I was 16 and confirmed a year later by the Bishop of Hull.”

Darius has now left school and completed an Open University course in Arts and Languages.
