YORK Art Gallery is aiming to recreate its original look when it reopens next year.
Gallery bosses have submitted plans for the new signage on the building, which is undergoing an £8m refurbishment.
The proposed York Art Gallery sign will be towards the top of the building, which is where the City Art Gallery one was placed in 1912, when the building was taken over by the city corporation, and it will be in the same font and proportions as the original.
It had been replaced in the mid-1960s by a smaller sign above the porticoes.
The application is being considered by City of York Council.
